Peter King and his family moved to Bend in 2005 after spending 25+ years working as a software engineer for various high tech companies in the Silicon Valley, including NeXT Computer, Sun Microsystems, Silicon Graphics, and most recently Openwave, Inc. as Director of Technology. He attended Cate School in Carpinteria, CA (where he currently serves on the board) and Stanford University. He is a former trustee of the Sea Crest School in Half Moon Bay, CA.
Peter was raised in a family of educators heralding back to his grandmother in a one-room schoolhouse on the Flathead Indian Reservation during the Great Depression. His father and uncle were professors, his aunt a superintendant, his uncle and brother principals, his mother, sister, four cousins and niece teachers. Needless to say, if he didn't learn the value of education by osmosis, it was taught to him.
When asked about his service to Cascades Academy, Peter responded,
"I'm excited to serve on the board because Cascades Academy provides in the best way possible all the elements of what I believe makes for a complete education. I've spent years with CEOs telling me, ' This widget will change the world.' No, the real way to change the world is to prepare our children to do so, to teach them responsibility and service, and to give them the skills and knowledge that will allow them to succeed at whatever it is they dream up."
