Jay Stalker
Middle & Upper School History, PE & Electives

Jay Stalker teaches United States history (6th, 11th, and 12th grades), ancient history (7th grade), middle school physical education as well as film and yearbook electives (9th-12th grades). In addition, he is the 9th and 10th grader advisor as well as the Student Council advisor.

Jay grew up in East Lansing, Michigan as part of the Michigan State Spartan family where his parents were professors. Every year when the leaves turn color, his heart longs for marching bands and Big Ten football in Spartan Stadium. Jay attended MSU on a creative writing scholarship and completed a B.A. in Liberal Arts with an emphasis on writing, philosophy, and social sciences. He returned a year later to acquire a Masters Degree in Anthropology specializing in social and cultural analysis. His thesis was based on his fieldwork among Lakota Sioux on Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota and focused on the contemporary expression of the Sun Dance tradition.

Jay's professional career has involved a number of experiences in education and counseling. His first work out of graduate school was as a Lead Facilitator for the Adventure Education Program of Starr Commonwealth in Michigan. Jay moved to Oregon in 1996 to climb, snowboard, and mountain bike. A few years later he found himself living out a dream facilitating therapeutic rock climbing experiences for kids from Rimrock Trails Adolescent Treatment Center in Prineville, Oregon. Most recently, Jay worked for Mt. Bachelor Academy as a classroom teacher in social science, a counselor, and as the Substance Abuse Counseling Coordinator.

Jay is an avid outdoorsman whose interests include rock climbing, skiing, and biking.
