Middle & Upper School Language Arts |
|
Katie Lamarre has been a Language Arts teacher for the past nine years at Bend Community School, St. Francis School and most currently Cascades Academy. She teaches Language Arts in both the middle school and high school. Katie specializes in teaching the writing process in a creative and fun method, so that students learn to enjoy the art while improving their writing skills. She also has a great appreciation for fine literature and enjoys teaching students this subject in a format that encourages questions and open discourse.
Katie is also the community service coordinator for the middle and upper school. Our middle and upper school students each donate approximately 30 hours of community service time per student. Projects have included volunteering with Healing Reins, Adopt-A-Trail, the Humane Society, and Empty Bowls.
Katie graduated from Gonzaga University in 1992 with a B.A. in both History and English. She then went on to complete a M.A. at Portland State University in History, specializing in Pacific Northwest History. Although she is still fascinated with our region's history, she found that what she really enjoyed was helping students become better writers. When Katie is not teaching, she enjoys a variety of outdoor activities. She shares her passion for skiing, mountaineering, backpacking, traveling and fly-fishing with her husband. On her own she spends many hours each week running and cycling the trails and streets of Bend, and she puts in a good amount of time into her favorite sport, Ultimate Frisbee.
