Peter Covell grew up in the Pacific Northwest, graduated from the Catlin Gabel School in Portland, attended Tulane University, and graduated from the University of Oregon with a B.A. in both Spanish and Anthropology. His studies at the University of Oregon included an exchange program in Quito, Ecuador with the Catholic University of Ecuador. There he completed a Spanish language fluency program and traveled extensively in South America. Later Pete received an Oregon Systems of Higher Education grant for continued education and traveled to southern Peru, working for an archaeological foundation under the auspices of the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History. After returning to the U.S. he taught Spanish at Mt. Bachelor Academy in central Oregon and began making Bend his home. Pete has maintained his love of travel by leading summer trips for Global Routes, a company that offers cultural immersion and community service trips for high school aged students. He spent two summers raising money for and building hurricane shelters for small Central America villages. Pete is more than enthusiastic about Latin America and enjoys sharing his energy and passion about Spanish and Hispanic culture with his students. He is an avid fly fisherman and mountain biker and enjoys both rock and mountain climbing. As the organizer of Cascades Academy's outdoor program, he has plenty of opportunities to share the beauty of central Oregon with the students.
