Middle/Upper School P.E.
Middle school P.E. is a little different at Cascades Academy. We approach sports and other physical activities with the philosophy of promoting active healthy lifestyles and an interest in physical activities, but the main focus is on having fun. Hiking, ice skating, walking, swimming, and skiing or snow boarding are all core curriculum components, but we also like to try out new things like slack lines, unicycles, bouldering, and salsa dancing. We believe that sports and adventure based activities are an excellent way to learn improved communication, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills. We may explore several team sports a year, but the main point will be learning to form teams, make and follow rules, and have fun even in a competitive environment. Ultimate Frisbee games often go on long after the score is forgotten, and kickball teams rarely have the same players for more than a few innings!
Lower School P.E.
The Physical Education program for the lower school focuses on life skills through various activities. The students are enrolled in swim lessons at Juniper Swim and Fitness during the fall, participate in full-day ski or snowboard lessons for five times early in the winter, and may learn martial arts, tumbling skills, soccer and other playground games throughout the spring.
