Kindergarten News Week of 5/13-5/17
Many thanks to all of you for attending the last culmination of Kindergarten and the year! I'm so proud of your children's hard work, and the amazing job they did at our culmination. There are so many things I love about our culminations, and one of them is seeing the incredible growth these children have achieved over the course of the year. To witness their confidence and focus is so heartwarming. I hope you are all as proud of your children as I am! Extra thanks to Emily and Anne for coming early to set up the "farm to table" snack.
There are only 11 ½ school days left in this year, two of which will be spent at Tumalo Park for our annual and very fun Outdoor School! We hope you will consider running a class or reading books to children during our Book Nic. As I'm sure you can imagine, children love to have their parents join us in one capacity or another! And it's an enjoyable way to rack up some volunteer hours!
Join us for LS Outdoor School (ODS) on June 6th and 7th!
At Cascades Academy, we call on our families and community members to volunteer their time and lead activities during our annual Outdoor School. If you are new to our school this year, feel free to reach out to other families and/or faculty to learn more about this exciting program. Please click on the link above to learn about how you can help make this the best ODS yet!
After surveying parents last week regarding the time capsule activity, it looks like most people would prefer to have this take place at the end of the day around 2PM. As a reminder, this will occur on Tuesday, June 11th, and will take about an hour. You should bring an adult sized shoe box, a small item your child doesn't mind parting with that is special to them at this time, and a short note that they will read when they graduate from high school. I will have a letter for them as well, along with some other things from the classroom. Feel free to include anything of significance that you think might please your child in 12 years! You will be filling out a memory book with your child which will be placed in the time capsule, then wrapping the box and decorating it. This will be put in a special place to be opened when your child graduates from high school. If for some reason you can't make this event, please let me know so I can pair your child up with another parent who can help them finish the activity.
Now that our Storyline has ended I will spend a good part of the next two weeks conducting end of the year assessments. I look forward to sharing this information with you in your child's report card. We finished out our week with a hike to the pond and the canyon. I love taking these kids to the canyon. To watch their finesse climbing boulders, listen to their joy as they crawl through caves and crevasses - being outdoors with children is one of my favorite activities! They all exhibit so much confidence and grit while exploring this area, I know these attitudes spill over into other areas of their lives.
Mark your calendars for the Cascades Academy Fun Run which is a fundraiser for bleachers in our gym. The Fun Run will take place on Thursday, May 30th beginning at 2PM on the field. Looking forward to seeing everyone there. And yes, teachers are running/jogging/walking as well!
I hope you all enjoyed your 3-day weekend
