Dear Cascades Academy Families and Friends,
As many of you know, over the last few years we have sought to cultivate a gratitude practice in the lives of our students through various rituals and routines throughout the school year. This publication, Our Gratitude Report, is an extension of this practice and an opportunity for us to express our gratitude to our extended community of families, friends, and supporters for all of the generous ways you have given your time, talent, and treasure to our school this past year.
According to Robert Emmons, a leading gratitude expert, gratitude has two key components:
“First, gratitude is an affirmation of goodness. We affirm that there are good things in the world, gifts, and benefits we’ve received. Second, we recognize that the sources of this goodness are outside of ourselves. We acknowledge that other people gave us many gifts, big and small, to help us achieve the goodness in our lives.”
This definition seemed especially appropriate as we reflected on all of the ways each of you have given so much to our school community this past year. You have invested in financial aid, curricular programs, expanded athletics offerings, new land acquisition, and teacher professional development just to name a few key areas. Our students and teachers have deeply benefited from your contributions, and we hope you’ll take the time to watch this short two-minute video to hear as they share stories of the “goodness” they have experienced thanks to your engagement and support.
From all of us at Cascades Academy, we extend our deepest gratitude for your kindness and generosity. Because of you, our school, our students, and our teachers continue to grow and thrive.
